D&G Machinery Elevated Drum-Type Hot Recycling Retrofit Drives Green Expansion of Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway

Jul 28, 2026

Driven by China's "Dual Carbon" goals and green transport initiatives, asphalt recycling technology has become a mandatory option for highway maintenance. The expansion and renovation project of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway features stringent requirements on the environmental performance, quality and supply efficiency of pavement materials.

Chibi Transportation Investment Group Shengyuan Road Construction Material Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Shengyuan Material") is a dedicated player in the road construction materials sector, with advanced production bases and rich experience in green construction. As a regional benchmark company for green building materials, it undertakes the main task of material supply for key sections of this project. Leveraging its elevated drum-type hot recycling technology, ‌D&G Machinery‌ upgraded Shengyuan Material’s DGX5000D asphalt mixing plant to precisely match the high standards.

Breakthrough & Innovation: Retrofit Echoing National Strategy, Empower Green Upgrade of Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway

The expansion and renovation of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway is not only a lift of traffic capacity, but also a major test for green construction and resource recycling. Faced with challenges in Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) treatment and increasingly strict environmental regulations, traditional production methods can no longer meet operational demands.

With in-depth insight into industry pain points, D&G Machinery has proposed a tailor-made elevated drum-type hot recycling retrofit solution for the customer. This upgrade is far more than a simple functional addition. Based on accurate demand evaluation for the expressway reconstruction project, it upgrades the original plant into a green powerhouse complying with national green highway construction standards, centered on three core objectives: high RAP addition ratio, low energy consumption & emission, and highly reliable output.

Before Retrofit

Leading Technology: Hardcore Advantages of Elevated Drums Deliver Win-Win in Quality and Economic Benefits

The core competitiveness of D&G Machinery’s elevated drum-type hot recycling retrofit lies in a portfolio of industry-leading patented technologies:

Patented Self-Cleaning Technology Resolves Material Adhesion Issues

RAP sticking to the drum wall and rakes is a long-standing industry pain point. ‌D&G Machinery’s new-generation patented "self-cleaning" RAP dryer drum technology features an innovative internal drum structure to bring automatic self-cleaning during production. After the retrofit, the drum cleaning cycle is extended by 3 to 5 times, with the longest maintenance interval once per year. It significantly cuts maintenance costs and downtime, ensuring continuous and efficient operation in high-intensity, long-duration projects such as the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway.

Uniform Material Curtain & Precise Temperature Control Ensure Zero Defects in Asphalt Mixture

Optimized internal drum layout forms a continuous and uniform material curtain for sufficient and even heating of recycled materials. The discharge temperature of recycled materials can reach up to 170°C, while exhaust gas temperature is precisely controlled to be only 10°C higher than the discharge temperature. This effectively prevents secondary aging of asphalt caused by overheating. With accurate temperature control, the RAP addition ratio is largely increased, truly achieving high-proportion hot recycling.

Environmental Compliance: Secondary Combustion of Exhaust Gas Pioneers Eco-Friendly Practices

D&G Machinery’s retrofit solution introduces RAP exhaust gas into the virgin material drum for secondary combustion. The design dramatically cuts harmful flue gas emissions and recovers waste heat from the exhaust gas to avoid energy waste. Combined with the outstanding performance of the D&G Machinery DGX5000D asphalt mixing plant itself, boasting 10%-35% fuel savings and 60% reduction in CO₂ emissions during warm-mix production, the upgraded equipment brings both economic and environmental benefits.
