Beyond Retrofitting: D&G Machinery Redefines the Full-Cycle Efficiency of RAP Drums

Jan 27, 2026

As circular economy and green manufacturing have become heated topic in the industry, technological innovations in asphalt recycling equipment are driving sustainable development across the road construction sector. The recently completed RS-series RAP drum upgrade project by D&G Machinery once again demonstrates its strong capability to revitalize aging equipment through technological innovation. By upgrading the existing RS220 RAP drum to the new-generation RS250 self-cleaning dryer drum, the project has not only achieved a leap in equipment performance but also but also set a benchmark with its outstanding operational performance, providing the industry with an efficient way to unlock the potential of existing assets.

This upgrade is not merely a simple increase in capacity, but a deep integration of D&G Machinery’s latest self-cleaning technology. The upgraded equipment has demonstrated its unique advantages in users' production practices, empowering them to consistently produce high-quality recycled materials under stable, efficient, and environmentally friendly operating conditions. Before the upgrade, the typical addition ratio during mass production was 30–40%; after the upgrade, this ratio reached 50–60%, enabling the production of 120,000 tons of materials for customers in half a year. This milestone underscores D&G Machinery’s expertise in providing customized, cost-effective upgrade solutions and offers a reliable and replicable model for a wide range of users facing challenges in capacity enhancement and equipment retrofit.

Next, let’s take a closer look at the key advantages brought by the RS250 RAP drum retrofit and explore how D&G Machinery’s new-generation self-cleaning RAP drum, with its innovative design, leads the way in both equipment performance and sustainability.

Notable Advantages After the Upgrade

Much Higher Capacity

The RS250 RAP drum has been redesigned to boost its processing capacity, with the output lifting from 140-160 t/h to 170-190 t/h.

Optimized Energy Efficiency

The new-generation self-cleaning RAP drum adopts D&G Machinery's patented technology, significantly cutting fuel consumption.

Higher-quality Asphalt Mixture

The RS250 RAP drum has enhanced the aggregate heating uniformity and temperature control accuracy, bringing more stable performance indicators for RAP asphalt mixtures.

More Reliable Equipment

D&G Machinery reinforced and upgraded key components during the upgrade, extending the equipment’s continuous operating time and greatly reducing downtime for maintenance.

Key Advantages of D&G Machinery's New-Generation Self-Cleaning RAP Drum

Innovative Structural Design

It facilitates the forming of a more uniform material curtain, ensuring more even heating of recycled materials thus improving the overall thermal efficiency.

Less Maintenance Cost

The "self-cleaning" module design extends the drum cleaning cycle by 3-5 times, meaning the longest cleaning interval is only once a year.

Controllable High-Temperature Discharge

The discharge temperature of recycled materials can reach up to 170°C; the exhaust gas temperature can be controlled within 10°C above the discharge temperature. With a countercurrent heating method, the exhaust gas temperature can be maintained between 80°C and 120°C.

The success story of our Henan customer shows that proper equipment upgrades and retrofits can yield significant returns with relatively small investment. Against the backdrop of increasingly strict environmental regulations and growing demand for resource recycling, D&G Machinery’s technological advantage in self-cleaning RAP drums will become even more prominent.

Looking ahead, as the "Dual Carbon Goals*” are further advanced and the green transformation of transportation infrastructure accelerates, D&G Machinery will continue to optimize the self-cleaning RAP drum technology, promoting higher proportions of RAP utilization, lower energy consumption operations, and smarter control systems. We will provide global customers with more efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective asphalt recycling solutions, jointly building a new ecosystem for sustainable road construction where every road embodies green intelligence.

* Note: The "Dual Carbon Goals" refer to China' commitments to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
